Job Description
Paramedic
Responsible to:
* Chief Operations Officer
* Deputy Chief of Operations
* Medical Director
Job Summary:
* Patient care remains our first priority. Said paramedic will be required to assess, treat and transport ill or injured patients they encounter. This shall be done at the Advanced Life Support level. It shall be a requirement for all paramedics to provide advanced care through effective communication and through the process of utilizing their foundation of sound technical and professional knowledge. The on-duty advanced life support provider shall be responsible for coordinating the clinical activities associated with each patient they encounter. The on-duty paramedic shall perform work related tasks as assigned/requested.
Qualifications:
* Education – High School Graduate or GED
* New York State Department of Health Paramedic Certification
* Eligibility for medical control privileges with the Regional Emergency Medical Organization at time of hire. This credentialing shall be maintained
* Professional rescuer CPR certification
* ACLS certification
* New York State DMV class D or higher driver’s license
* Acceptable driving record (per our insurance carrier)
Preferred Training:
* Nationally registered
* PALS/NALS or PEPP certification
* PHTLS certification
* AMLS certification
* CCEMT-P certification
* NYS-DOH CLI or CIC certification
* EVOC certification
* College degree
* MFI credentialed or trained status (must be obtained and maintained as per hiring requirements)
Patient Care/Operational Duties:
* Operates all vehicles in a safe and professional manner with respect to environmental conditions, vehicle abilities, driver abilities, agency expectations (policies and procedures) and in compliance with the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law
* Maintains vehicles, equipment and station in a state of readiness and cleanliness at all times
* Remains up to date with job related innovations

* Provides BLS and ALS medical treatments as outlined in REMO protocol
* Attends required training sessions and in-services
* Maintains all certifications and regulatory requirements
* Participates in orientation programs
* Works in hazardous environments to ensure safety and stabilization of the patient
* Works with local EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement agencies as a team for a coordinated effort on the patient’s behalf
Required Knowledge/Skill:
* Good social skills with sound judgment
* Ability to operate bio-telemetry and two-way radio equipment
* Ability to operate calmly and efficiently in a crisis situation
* Ability to maintain records and prepare both a written and computerized patient care report
* Ability to follow written and oral instructions
* Ability to understand written law/directives, and apply them to situations
* Excellent moral and professional character
* Neatness of appearance
* Ability to carry heavy loads inclusive of patients and equipment
* Maintain competency relative to job requirements

Compensation:
* Hourly rate of $16 per hour
* Accrual of Combined Leave Time at 1 hour for each 12 hours worked (max accrual of 300 hours)
Interview:
* Interview process will include background check, oral interview and practical skills evaluation based on American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Standards, National DOT Standards, and REMO protocol if applicable. The practical skills evaluation will be utilized to assess application of didactic and practical skills furthermore will be utilized to establish seniority list of paid providers new to the organization.
* Interviews will begin as early as March of 2006. Positions will commence July 1, 2006.
