Medical Assist Safety Team

Medical Assist Safety Team
In order to ensure that a trapped or disabled firefighter is immediately accessed, treated and transported without delay to a hospital capable of treating serious trauma, burn, cardiac, or respiratory conditions.

A simultaneous request shall be made by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department for both a Firefighter Assist Search Team (FAST) team (requested fire department) and a MAST team from Moreau Emergency Squad, Inc. in order to respond in conjunction with said fire department to the scene of a working fire.

Response of said MAST team to the working fire shall be in the Priority 3 mode, unless it has been deemed that the FAST team is responding for an active recovery effort

Procedure:

Recommended that an Advanced Life Support Unit will respond.

Upon arriving at scene, stage the ambulance as close as possible to the FAST team without interfering with fire suppression operation.  Stage vehicle in a location that is both readily accessible and not blocked in by further fire suppression units

Gather listed equipment, place on stretcher and bring in close proximity to FAST team post.  Equipment shall be covered with tarp during inclement weather.

1)Airway/intubation supplies (BVM, etc.)
2)Cardiac monitoring/defibrillator
3)Intravenous and drug supplies (weather permitting)
4)Trauma supplies (first aid kit), cervical collars, backboard and reeves
5)Large shears (to remove turnout gear if needed)
6)Personal protection equipment (PPE)

This MAST team will NOT be utilized to “rehab” firefighters or become dedicated in other tasks related to fire operations.  The goal of this team is to merely provide care and transport to a trapped or disabled firefighter recovered by the FAST team.
